Partnership Determined to Advance Skilled Trades Sector Forward in Ontario
A notable collaboration between the Skills Council of Canada (SCC) and the Peel District School Board (PDSB) is set to progress and grow the skills trade sector in Ontario. The partnership aims to invest in revolutionary facilities from the Judith Nyman Secondary School (JNSS) to offer more advanced skills trade training for young Ontarians looking to pursue a career in the industry.
The SCC is an Ottawa-based organization focused on providing education technology support to people in the province from skills assessments to training and career advancement. The JNSS facilities are quite expansive and offer more than 17 specialized training machinery and facilities which can help address Ontario’s issue with the trade skills shortage and enhance its economic competitive edge. JNSS also offers thousands of trade courses, evaluations, and other learning resources.

The collaboration is also determined to be a great support for the province’s unions. Through this initiative, unions can utilize the revolutionary JNSS facilities to aid their tradespeople and instill values of safety and leadership. “We’re dedicated to propelling advancements in skills training, reskilling, and upskilling that underpin industries nationwide, and this partnership signifies a remarkable leap forward in bolstering trade development throughout Ontario,” explained Brad Loiselle, CEO of SCC. “It empowers us to imbue individuals with tangible skills, laying the groundwork for successful careers in trades and fostering a resilient, adept workforce that will be a driving force in Ontario’s economic trajectory for years to come.”
