Wood Design Show 2023 Delivers Innovation, Expertise, and Comradery

The annual Wood Design Show (WDS), which has become the not-to-miss event of the year, brought together professionals from various sectors, including architects, designers, cabinetmakers, woodworkers, and manufacturers for another remarkable showcase of industry excellence. Concluding its 8th edition, the tradeshow witnessed the highest attendance in its Québec City history.

Over the course of two days, attendees had the opportunity to explore over 50,000 ft2 of floor space comprising more than 50 exhibitors and three conference stages. The VIP networking cocktail dînatoire, held on October 11, saw a gathering of the ‘who’s who’ of the industry, from manufacturers to top-level executives of architectural and design firms.

Following the success of the exhibition, Caroline Brassard, DSR and Events Manager at Design Spec Rep, expressed her enthusiasm, saying: “For nearly a decade, the Wood Design Show has been focused on bringing together the very best in the business, and this year was no exception. We were overwhelmed both by the response to this year’s event and by the innovation, expertise, and comradery we witnessed amongst exhibitors and attendees.”


Unveiling 2024 trends

Many of the exhibitors took the opportunity to launch new projects and introduce their latest innovations. Among the notable launches was Uniboard’s preview of its Eclipse collection, which promises to revolutionize interior design with scratch and smudge-resistant surfaces. Sublime Collection introduced its Greenguard-certified wall profiles that offer unique features such as quick assembly and superior surface quality. Benjamin Moore unveiled its 2024 color palette, adding another layer of inspiration for design enthusiasts, and Prestolam demonstrated its craftsmanship in cabinetry and countertops leaving a lasting impression on visitors. Kronospan, the world’s leading manufacturer of wood-based panels, solidified its position as an industry leader, displaying its exciting product advancements.



The Wood Design Show also provided exhibitors with a platform to showcase their expertise on timely industry topics through insightful presentations.

Hettich Canada introduced its new series, Design Chronicles, which took attendees behind-the-scenes of real home renovations, reimagining ordinary spaces with exceptional hardware. Marie-Chantal Milette, founder of Kryptonie and a globally recognized color expert, presented an in-depth workshop on the interior design trends expected to take center stage in 2024. Premoule, known for its range of postformed countertops and custom cabinet doors and accessories, inspired the design community with their exquisite fall-inspired mood board.

Dorr Industries, Tafisa, Husky Plywood, and Formica also received praise from attendees for their insightful and interactive presentations.

New Industry Players

The 2023 WDS also welcomed several new exhibitors, including Blum, a premium hardware manufacturer, along with numerous industry associations. HanStone, hailed by many as the ‘discovery of the show,’ left a lasting impression on designers with its line of premium Quartz surfaces.

The event’s record-breaking attendance and the array of groundbreaking launches and presentations reaffirm its pivotal role in driving innovation and collaboration and shaping the future of the industry. The next edition is set to return to Montreal in 2024.
