AWMAC Ontario Celebrates Winners of the Annual Apprenticeship Contest

Kitchener, Ontario, March 17, 2024 – The Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) Ontario chapter proudly announces the conclusion of its highly anticipated annual Apprenticeship Contest, held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Conestoga College’s Woodworking Centre, Doon Campus. The event showcased the talents of woodworking students and recent graduates in a competitive yet nurturing environment.

This one-day event challenged participants to construct a cabinet based on specific drawings issued to NAAWS standards. The competition culminated with the evaluation of the cabinets by a distinguished panel of judges, leading to the awarding of prizes to the top three contestants.


First Place: Jasneet Singh Sidhu (Humber College) – $500 prize, sponsored by Archmill House

Second Place: Aidan Barker (Conestoga College) – $250 prize, sponsored by DM Millwork

Third Place: Ian Kichiy (Conestoga College) – $100 prize, sponsored by Art for Everyday

Jasneet Singh Sidhu’s winning cabinet will advance to the AWMAC National Apprenticeship Contest in Quebec, representing Ontario’s woodworking excellence on the national stage.

The contest’s integrity was upheld by esteemed judges Nick Anastas, Svend Nielsen, Jody Wyman from Bendt Kitchens & Millwork, and Frank Sansalone, an AWMAC Life Member. Their expertise ensured a fair and thorough assessment based on adherence to the provided drawings and craftsmanship quality.

Special thanks to Steve Bader, a prominent figure in woodworking education, and Conestoga College for hosting this year’s event. Their commitment was instrumental in its success.
