AWMAC Northern Alberta offers CEU session on NAAWS 5.0

AWMAC Northern Alberta is offering a complimentary virtual Lunch and Learn for architects, designers, specification writers and other design professionals following the launch of NAAWS 5.0.

The updated session, “Defining the Standard: The Critical Role of Reference Standards and Introduction to NAAWS 5.0,” has been approved for one continuing education unit (CEU) by The Alberta Association of Architects. It will examine how reference standards can be used to reduce project risk, improve coordination and establish clearer expectations for architectural woodwork projects.

The session will introduce participants to NAAWS 5.0 and review key changes and improvements in the latest version of the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards. It will also address the role reference standards play in defining project quality, scope and performance requirements.

According to AWMAC Northern Alberta, unclear or incomplete specifications can create interpretation gaps between design professionals, contractors and architectural woodwork manufacturers. The presentation will outline common project risks associated with incomplete specifications and provide guidance for better coordinating drawings and project specifications with NAAWS 5.0.

Participants will also receive an overview of AWMAC resources and the association’s Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS) Program, including how these tools can support quality assurance and compliance verification on architectural woodwork projects.

The session is intended to help design professionals understand how the updated standard may affect their specifications and project documentation while providing practical approaches to reducing disputes and costly project issues.

The Lunch and Learn will be presented by Amanda Hill of AWMAC Northern Alberta. Hill manages a range of chapter activities, including membership, GIS projects, Lunch and Learns, events, board activities, tradeshows and accounting.

Hill has longstanding ties to the architectural woodworking sector and previously worked with a local architectural woodwork firm in an administrative and continuous improvement role before moving into her current work with AWMAC Northern Alberta.
